Determined But Patient | Exciting News for August

July 26, 2017 Blog General 2

Every once in a while when it comes time to make a video, I just don’t feel it. There is a lot of energy that goes into making a video in preparation, recording and editing and every once in a while things just dont click.

Now rather than stress about it…

(ok I stress a little) I have decided not to be overly hard on myself and get rest, and attack it the next day.

I have the intention to make a video every night, knowing that I just wont feel it on a day or two and the end result will be around 3-5 videos per week.  I know I would grow faster if I did 7 days/day in the short term but I also do not want to rush a crappy video out to you just to check it off the list for a day.

There can be conflicting information on how often you should post. There reality is that posting crap (<– technical term)  7 days a weeks is not better than posting good quality 3 days per week.  Now the caveat to choosing to post 3 days per week is that you could miss a day and then fall short of 3 videos per week.

For this reason I start each day with the intention of making a new video.  At the end of each day I may or may not have something to share with you, but I know my goal is a video per day than there is a very strong chance I’ll get 3-5 videos to you by the end of the week.  Let me take a peak at last week and see how many videos I actually released…

So this is my “normal” workflow but I also wanted to make you aware of my plans for August. August is traditionally a VEDA month (Vlog Every Day in April/August) but Creator Fundamentals is not a vlog.  That said I still wanted to tap into that energy and participate in a push to demonstrate the power of a sprint within your marathon (think of it like interval training). For that reason I will be participating in a 30 day challenge to improve the quality and results of Creator Fundamentals.

The goal is to focus on making improvements with each video and commit to high output.  I am not going to swear to 7 videos a week because as I mentioned quality is more important than quantity in the long run, but I am going promise to improve my production ability to be able to put out more quality content in a given week.

I have some exciting topics planned, but I also want to hear from YOU.  Tell me what you would like to see videos about!

  1. 3-5 (good) videos a week is rather impressive, especially if you’re already working full-time! I’m trying to manage my 8-5, two side-gigs, taking care of the house, keeping up with the social media/fora, and at least 1 video per week! I feel like I cheat a bit relying on my “Freeway Forum” replays, but they get the job done, I think.

I don’t suppose it would be worthwhile to attempt a challenge such as VEDA (or even VEWDA–Video Every WeekDay in August) if those videos were mostly fluff, would it? Maybe I’ll wait until April as I really need to hunker down and get the rudiments in place.

The real challenge is 3-5 good videos while trying to improve my quality…. so much to learn, so little time. I hear you on trying to manage time. Married with 2 kids, and 3 dogs and all the commitments that entails but I try during my window of 9pm-2am… and I try to not go until 2am. I considered doing the VEDA on The Average Dan channel but I think mine would also likely end up being the commute videos. I have opted instead for a 30-day challenge to improve my quality and grow the Creator Fundamentals channel.

I am trying to implement audio improvements and the equipment is kicking my butt. 🙂 Also I have been trying to improve my background which is challenging working in such a tight space. Deep breaths and see how it looks at the end of the month. Thanks for checking out the site!
